Fall Leaf Sensory Bottle for Preschool

Need an easy and fun sensory bottle recipe for your fall theme? Learning about fall can be a lot of fun in the preschool or pre-k classroom, but all that fun can quickly become overstimulating for some children.

That’s where sensory bottles come in! As it is shaken, the colorful leaves in this discovery bottle drift gently inside the bottle. The falling leaves can have a soothing effect on young children, making it the perfect addition to your calm down area.

Sensory bottles make fantastic calm down tools. When you switch up your calm down bottles every now and then it can freshen things up and increase interest levels.

Introduce your fall sensory bottle to your students, then place it in your calm down area. When students are feeling anxious, they can visit the calm down corner and shake the bottle to watch the leaves glide slowly through the plastic bottle.

The first step is to fill your empty bottle half-way up with clear liquid glue. This way, you don’t have to worry about exact measurements, how big your bottle is, or get any of your measuring tools all sticky.

Next, add your leaf shaped foil confetti and gold glitter to the bottle. I used gold glitter, but you can use another color if you prefer. I suggest using just enough glitter to add sparkle, but not too much or you won’t be able to see the leaves clearly.

Then, add water to your bottle until it is almost full. Be sure to leave a little extra room at the top to allow the leaves to move when shaken.

You can make just one bottle, or you can make a few fall sensory bottles, whichever you prefer. But don’t forget to seal the lid shut on your sensory bottles so your kids can’t open them! You can use hot glue or duct tape to seal the lids of your fall sensory bottles shut.

After you’ve finished making your discovery bottle, place it in your calm down area or your science center for your students to explore.

You could also also try using glitter glue in your sensory bottles and calm down jars. I have some leaf shaped mini-erasers that would be perfect in a fall sensory bottle or even a sensory bin.
